ALLERGIES
Allergies ,Its an abnormal immune reactions for things that are generally safe for most people. When you are allergic to something, your immune system mistakenly believes that this substance is harmful to your body. (Substances that cause allergic reactions, such as certain foods, dust, plant pollen, or medicines, are known as allergens.) In an attempt to protect the body’s immune system produces IgE antibodies to the allergen. These antibodies then cause certain cells in the body to release chemicals in the blood, one of which is histamine (pronounced: his-tuh-meen).
Histamine can acts on the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, skin or gastrointestinal tract and can cause the symptoms of allergic reaction , future exposure to the allergen triggers the same antibody response again. This means that every time you come into contact with these allergens, you have an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions could be mild, such as a runny nose, or may be severe, like difficult breathing problems . An asthma attack, for example, is often an allergic reaction to something that is breathed into the lungs of a person who is sensitive.
An allergist is a doctor specially trained to manage and treat allergies, asthma and other allergic diseases. In the United States physicians who are certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) have successfully completed an accredited program of education and an evaluation process that includes a secure, monitored examination to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experience needed for the provision of patient care in allergy and immunology. Becoming an allergist / immunologist requires completion of at least nine years of training. After completing medical school and graduated in medicine, a doctor will then be subject to three years of training in internal medicine (to become an internist) or pediatrics (to become a pediatrician).
In the UK, allergy is a subspecialty of general medicine or pediatrics. After obtaining postgraduate exams (MRCP or MRCPCH respectively) a doctor who works for several years as a specialist registrar before qualifying for the General Register of Medical Specialists of the Council. Allergy services can also be delivered by immunologists. A 2003 Royal College of Physicians report presents a case of improving what was perceived as inadequate allergy services in the United Kingdom. In 2006, the House of Lords convened a subcommittee that reported in 2007. It also concluded that allergy services were insufficient to cope with what the gentlemen referred to as an epidemic of allergy and its social cost, made several other recommendations.
