Allergy

Allergy
The term allergy was introduced in 1906 by the Viennese pediatrician Clemens von Pirque after noticing that some of his patients were hypersensitive to normally innocuous entities such as dust, pollen or certain foods. Pirque called this phenomenon allergy of the ancient Greek word ἄλλος allos other means  ἔργον ergon, meaning work . Historically, all forms of hypersensitivity, which is classified as allergies, and all were likely to be caused by an inappropriate activation of the immune system. Later, it became clear that several mechanisms to fight against various diseases have been involved with the common link to the activation of immune system disorder.

Step towards understanding the mechanisms of allergy was the discovery of a class labeled immunoglobulin E (IgE) - Kimishige Ishizaki and colleagues were the first to isolate and describe IgE in 1960.

Many inflammation-related diseases such as type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and mouth disease and allergic asthma have increased in the Western world during the last 2-3 years. The rapid increase in allergic asthma and other atopic diseases in industrialized countries probably began in the 1960s and 1970s, with further increases occurring during 1980 and 1990, although some suggest that a sustained increase awareness has been practiced since the 1920s. The incidence of atopy in developing countries remained generally much lower.

Some allergies produce multiple type of  symptoms, and in rare cases of allergic reaction can become very severe , this severe reaction is called anaphylaxis .Some  Signs of anaphylaxis are difficult breathing problems , swallowing , swelling of face , lips , tongue and throat or other parts of the body, and dizziness or unconsciousness. Anaphylaxis usually occurs in minutes after the start of exposure to a substance, such as peanut oil, but some reactions may be delayed up to 4 hours. Luckily, anaphylactic reactions do not occur frequently and can be treated successfully if proper medical procedures are followed.

Once physicians have been completed training in one of these specialties of medicine, they must pass the Council, or Pediatrics (ABP) or the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Internists or pediatricians who wish to focus on the sub-field of allergy-immunology then complete at least two additional years of study, called a fellowship in allergy / immunology training program. Allergist / immunologist ABAI listed as certificates have passed the certification exam of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) following their scholarships.
